Irene and Daniel married in August 2025. Two months before, in June, we spent an evening walking through Sineu, the village Daniel's family comes from, in the middle of the island, far from the coast most people picture when they think of Mallorca.
Walking through Sineu's old town
We started in the old town. Sineu's church rises out of the village at a scale that feels almost impossible for a place this size, and its stone walls hold the heat of the day well into the evening.

Light came down the side passage in a single band, and we followed it. The streets nearby gave us the rest: Mallorcan shutters half-closed against the sun, old shopfronts with their original hand-painted signs, corners that have not been redecorated for anyone's benefit.
Golden hour at the family caseta
Then we drove out to the family's caseta, the small stone house that looks over their land.
A picnic in the cut fields
The fields had just been cut. Bales of straw sat where the machine had left them, and someone had set up a picnic in the middle of it all: a table, dinner, the two of them, and the whole flat expanse of the interior going gold as the sun dropped.
It was the kind of evening you can't plan for and don't need to. They knew the place. I just followed them through it.
