A Spirited Wedding at Son Sampol, Mallorca

Getting ready at the finca

Son Sampol is a finca outside Llucmajor, and the morning spread out across all of it: the men in white dinner jackets in one room doing each other's cuffs, the dress being fitted in a vaulted stone one, pomegranates ripening on the tree by the door. With three children and ninety guests on the way, it was a busy house from early on.

A ceremony in front of the façade

Everyone walked up through the pines and sat down facing the old façade, on white chairs set out across the courtyard. The doors of the house stood open behind the ceremony the whole time, and the reserved rows were marked with one word: Family.

September light at Son Sampol does something particular. The finca's spaces (the courtyard, the lawn, the stone) hold it differently that time of year, softer and longer, and the whole day seemed to move at the pace of it.

Dinner on the lawn, and games at every table

After the ceremony, cocktails by the pool. Then dinner on the lawn, long tables set out across the grass, guests moving between them. There were games at every table, small challenges people threw themselves into, tambourines appearing from somewhere, music, and a great deal of laughing.

A party that gave it everything

The party was wild. Genuinely, properly wild. They gave it everything.
