Getting ready at L'Avenida, Sóller

The morning was in Sóller, at L'Avenida, in tall rooms with shutters and balconies over the street. The dress hung in the wardrobe next to a hot pink one, and the light came in sideways all morning.

The ceremony took place in the clastra, and at one point the entire room sang a Beatles song together: guests, family, the two of them, all of it at once. Afterwards, cocktails were served under the palm trees, in the shade of the gardens, before the celebration moved to dinner.

Alfabia's gardens absorb people. The cocktail spread out under the palms, sofas set among the trees, orange orchids on the tables and trays coming through the greenery. At one point Charlotte took a microphone and talked to all of them.

Portraits through the gardens

The gardens are the reason to marry at Alfabia: cobbled paths, stone stairways between the cypresses, and inside the old house a baroque mirror big enough to hold a whole dress. We walked through it for twenty minutes.

Long tables dressed with figs and peaches

The tables were something else. Long, communal, dressed with seasonal fruit (figs, peaches, grapes) laid out across the whole length of them. It looked less like decoration and more like abundance, the kind of table you don't want to leave.

A live band in the gardens

The party started in the garden with a live band that lifted the whole evening, then carried on into the night at the disco. One hundred and twenty guests, and not one of them sitting down.
